Halloween brews

Yesterday was Halloween. And Halloween means playing dress-up. It was also the Alloa Real Ale Festival. And that means drinking beer. And as I love dressing up for Halloween and drinking beer, I spent the day in costume at a beer festival.

I have a rule that I don’t spend more than £5 on my Halloween costumes, so I had to work with what I had on hand. My costume would also need to be easy to move around in – and easy to sit down in. So, I looked to my closet for inspiration.

And what did I find? A whole load of mismatched polka dot clothes. And so, Dottie Longstockings, Pippi’s way-cooler American cousin, was born! And the best part about that? I didn’t have to buy anything to make the costume work. So that means I saved £5 on Halloween this year. Yay!

Of course, the £5 savings didn’t last too long, as I spent the day at the real ale festival. But I saved £2 on my entry because I’m a CAMRA member, and I was only drinking third-pints because I can sample more brews that way.

So all told, I was only out of pocket £13 this Halloween. Which isn’t bad for an entire day’s fun and entertainment!!

Anyhow, I won’t go through a list of all of the beers I had, but I will give a shout-out to my favourite brew of the day: Fallen Brewery’s Track 29. It was billed as “an American-style wheat beer” and it had a nice bite to it. Yes, it was a bit of hoppy, hefe heaven! It is definitely something I’d like to try again, and maybe something I’ll try to recreate when I get my home brewery, RyanBrew, up and running.

I’m looking forward to the next couple of weekends when I’ll be out and about sampling more beer. I might even find some time to see some great sites, too. So you can look forward to posts about those adventures soon!
